St. Malachy Parish Haiti Mission #43

St. Malachy Council 12540 (Brownsburg) members Brad Houston, Leonard Swope and Paul were in Haiti 20-24 February to work with our twin parish St. Marguerite in Port Margot.

Fr. Laurent and the people of St. Marguerite send their greetings and greatly appreciate the relationship between our parishes.

Monday and Tuesday were Carnival days (Mardi Gras) in Port Margot. St. Therese School was closed for the celebrations. The St. Malachy clinic was open most of the week. Several meetings were held to strengthen the relationships between St. Malachy, St. Marguerite, Servants of Mary and the Clinic staff. A 700 gallon water purification system was installed at Bayeux.

Spring 2011

St. Malachy Parish Haiti Mission #37

Brian Meyer and Paul Zielinski returned from Port Margot in February. They worked with Bill Farrar (Fountains of Hope, Executive Director) and David Siler (Archdioceses of Indianapolis, Director of Catholic Charities and Fountains of Hope Board Member) to install a drinking water chlorination system at St. Marguerite. The system currently treats 700 gallons of water and can be easily expanded.

Thank you for keeping us in your prayers.

Below are several pictures of the installation of the water chlorination system.

Well, everyone has returned home from Port Margot, Haiti safe & sound. God is truly good. Fr. Jacques Mary Charles sends his thanks and prayers to the people of St. Malachy. There were a total of six mission trips to Ste. Marguerite (three building and three medical) in 2002. The following summarizes the October missions and our plans for 2003.

The St. Malachy and Ste. Marguerite building crew did a great job. The medical team could not accomplish what they do without the building team. They

For the first time, the Medical Team had lights & water.

Clinic Dedication

Fr. Jacques Mary Charles, Raphael Jean (Parish Council President), and several dignitaries from Cap Haitian conducted a very impressive service to bless and officially open the Medical Clinic at Ste. Marguerite. An open house was held after the dedication service.

Medical Mission

The medical team saw about 850 patients. For the first time, our Dentist was able to drill and fill cavities instead of just pulling teeth. There was a widespread outbreak of respiratory infections in Haiti, and the team treated many Pneumonia patients.

2003 Plans

There are three combined Medical / Building missions planned for 2003. Seats are going fast, so sign-up today:

Our pharmacy is well stocked, thanks to the Catholic Medical Missions Board, but we still need:

We are making very little difference in the poverty, starvation, and suffering in Haiti. However, spiritually we are making a positive impact. And it's only because EVERYONE at St. Malachy has participated in giving their time, talent & treasures.

The building and medical teams are very thankful for the generosity of our fellow parishioners. We are also very thankful for the hospitality shown us by the people of Ste. Marguerite. Together the parish families of St. Malachy and Ste. Marguerite are a true reflection of Christ’s love.

Please continue to pray for us!

*Note: If any Knights or other individuals are interested in helping with this project in any way, please contact Paul Zielinksi ASAP for further information and details.
